A Traffic Police: A regulator of traffics
A traffic police is a
very familiar figure in towns and cities. He usually stands on the island at
the crossing of roads. His duty is to control the traffic in the busy and
crowded roads of the town. He puts on his specific uniform usually with a cap.
He has also a white umbrella to protect him from the sun and the rain. He uses
a whistle to draw the attention of the drivers and passers-by. As soon as he
raises his hand across a road, all the vehicles passing along that road stop at
once and passers-by are allowed to cross the road safely. Next he extends his
hand in another direction and the traffic on that road comes to a standstill
and the stopped traffic on the previous road starts moving on. This goes on for
the whole day. A traffic police maintains discipline in roads and highways and
plays a vital role in road transports. Some of the traffic police are not
well-trained and that‘s why they maintain the traffic whimsically that
interrupts the normal speed of all traffics. He does not earn a lot because his
salary is very poor. He cannot support his family well and cannot fulfil his
desires as he is to lead a very simple life. However, he should be well-paid so
that he need not adopt unfair means for his living. Only a few of the traffic
police are involved in illegal operations and they unnecessarily halt buses,
trucks or any kind of vehicles and demand money illegally. This may lead a
country to destruction gradually. Rather, a traffic police should be a great
friend of the passers-by and must be an important person of a nation.

A Street Accident: An unexpected episode
Among daily‘s
unfortunate occurrences, street accident is very common. Despite all efforts to
prevent accident, it happens everyday. Ours is a very over-populated country.
Here roads are very busy and narrow. That is why street accidents take place
very frequently. Careless driving is also responsible for this. Day before
yesterday a terrible accident took place just before my eyes. It occurred in
front of Dhaka College. I was going to the New Market. When I reached the
college gate, suddenly I heard a scream of a boy. I found that a boy, who was
crossing the Mirpur Road, was run over by a speedy truck. When the truck was a
few feet away from him, the boy got puzzled and ran backwards and forwards. The
driver tried desperately to hold the break but failed. The truck ran over the
boy. He was crushed under the wheels of the truck and his body was changed into
a lump of flesh. The truck was stopped. The passers-by crowded there. The boy
was taken up from the pool of blood. A gentleman offered his car to carry the
boy to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In the evening I came to know that
the boy had breathed his last on way to the hospital, and I was greatly shocked
at this. The truck along with the driver had been taken to police custody. But
that horrible scene still haunts my mind. However, we all should always bear in
mind that life is more valuable than time. Moreover, some proper steps should
be taken and some strict rules should be introduced to stop street accidents.
