A Day Laborer
A day laborer is he who
does heavy manual labor in various fields. He is quite known to all. He is to
be healthy, strong and stout. A day laborer is an unskilled person. He is
usually employed in agriculture and construction work. Most of the day laborers
in rural areas work in the field. They plough the land, plant the seedlings,
weed the plants and harvest the crops. In the cities and towns they are often
employed in construction works. He gets
up early in the morning and goes out in search of work. He works morning to
evening according to the direction of his employer. In the evening he gets his
wages. He works hard the whole day and buys food for his family. With his small
earnings and returns home in the evening. Sometimes he and his family go
without food if he cannot manage work. In harvesting season his work is in
great demand and he can earn more. Then he can meet the bare necessaries of his
life with his additional income. But in leisure period, when there is not much
work for him, his conditions become worse. The life of a day laborer is full of
sorrows and sufferings. He can hardly enjoy peace and happiness. His misery
knows no bounds when he gets ill. It is true that the rich and privileged class
of the society do not evaluate his services properly. It is our duty to
recognize his services and do something for him so that he may live a decent
life with dignity.
