The Importance of Learning English
Language is the vehicle
through which we express our thoughts and ideas. English is now an
international language. People all over the world use this language as a medium
of communication. In this age of globalization, English becoming a global
language, its importance is very great. Therefore, in order to keep pace with
the advancement of civilization and maintain international relations. we should
learn English. For trade and commerce, we have to communicate With our business
partners and firms of other countries in English. Its academic value is great.
All important things, findings of scientific researches, teachings and
philosophy of great scholars— all are published mostly in English. Admission
for higher studies in any foreign university is not possible without a certain
amount of proficiency in English language. Even in our country, fluency written and spoken English is a pre-requisite
for good and lucrative jobs. If we do not learn English, we shall fail in all
these activities and eventually we shall have to pay very heavily for our
neglect of this global language. Our students face difficulties in learning
English. At first. they do not find interest in learning—English. They lack in
motivation and earnestness. In certain quarters, a false idea has somehow
developed that if we study English, our mother tongue will be neglected. It is
encouraging to note that due importance has been attached to English in our
education policy. MV suggestion about learning English is that the students
should lay emphasis on their textbook. Gradually, they will be able to gain
proficiency in four skills. The government may do well to foster the teaching
and learning of English by instituting stipends and scholarships in this sphere.
