Victory day is a national holiday in Bangladesh celebrated on December 16 to commemorate the victory of the Allied forces High Command over the Pakistani forces in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. On the 16th December 1971 Bangladesh came out as an independent nation. The 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War was a war of independence, which resulted in the secession of East Pakistan from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and established the sovereign nation called Bangladesh. The war pitted East Pakistan and India against West Pakistan, and lasted over a duration of nine months. One of the most violent wars of the 20th century, it witnessed large-scale atrocities, the exodus of 10 million refugees and the Killing of 3 million people. On 16 December 1971, Lieutenant General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, CO of Pakistan Armed Forces located in East Pakistan signed the Instrument of Surrender. The surrender took place at the Ramna Race Course in Dhaka on December 16, 1971. Every year this day is observed with great solemnity and solidarity. The whole country wears a festive look. This day begins with gun shot. Our national flag is hoisted on the top of each institution, shop and shopping mall. Meetings, seminars and discussions are held in various places. People go to the national memorial to show respect to the martyrs. On this day, we take oath against any kind of injustice, tyranny and falsehood. However, it is a day of joy, hope and inspiration. This day will remain ever fresh and ever green in the heart of each and every Bangalee.

A Dictionary




A dictionary is a collection of words. It lists the words of a language. It is a very useful handy tool. Using a dictionary is a perfect way to improve language skills. It tells us about the spelling, pronunciation, meaning, parts of speech etc. of words. To make the meanings of words clear, example sentences are given in italics. Example sentences show how words are used. It also gives the synonym/s and the antonym/s of a word. Parts of speech are also shown. A verb word is always given in the simple present tense. But the past form of a verb and the past participle are also shown. The words in a dictionary are presented in alphabetical order. It means words starting with the letter D will be before the words starting with the letter E. In the same way words starting with the letter F will come after the words starting with E. Again the words starting with the same letter are also arranged one after another in alphabetical order in the dictionary. For example, the words dark, doctor and deep all start with the letter D. These words appear in the dictionary in the order of dark, deep and doctor. To find the words with a letter, look at the words at the top of the page. A dictionary gives us the meaning/meanings of a word. Synonyms and antonyms are also can be found in the dictionary. So, now, we have understood that using a dictionary is a great way to learn a language properly.
